Description

The renowned Danish functionalist architect Vilhelm Lauritzen designed the VL 45 Radiohus Pendant in the late 1930s as part of his total work of art, Radiohuset (The Radio House), headquarters of the Danish Broadcasting Corporation, which was inaugurated just after the end of World War II in 1945.

Lauritzen designed the pendant and all other lamps for Radiohuset in collaboration with Louis Poulsen. The pendant was initially named the Office Lamp, featuring a glossy, three-layer, mouth-blown glass shade with untreated brass details.

Top Plate, Base & Stem: Brass, Brushed and Untreated. Notes: The untreated surface is not lacquered and will develop a patina over time.

Vilhelm Lauritzen, 1930-1940

Vilhelm Lauritzen (1894–1984) is one of the most significant architects in Danish; he was a trail-blazing figurehead of functionalism. A number of his buildings – Nørrebro Theatre, Daells Varehus department store, Radiohuset and the first airport built in Kastrup – represented the concentrated essence of contemporary life.
