Shaping light

Louis Poulsen has always sought, not only to design lamps, but also to shape light and create an atmosphere that makes people feel good, both in- and outdoors. The shape of light creates space and our products should live harmoniously within the space they define - indirect, soft and inviting.

The System PH

Our philosophy of light can be traced back to 1926 when the original master of light, Poul Henningsen, first developed the System PH, a series of mathematic principles designed to provide exceptional light. The first lamps based on the system were the very popular three-shade lamps, which have since been followed by several other PH lamps based on the same principles.
