Standard SP Chair
Standard SP Chair
Jean Prouvé, 1934/1950
Description
The Standard SP (Siège en Plastique) reinterprets Prouvé's iconic Standard chair, preserving its form while featuring a durable plastic seat and backrest. Prouvé's design recognized that chairs endure the most stress on their back legs, using steel tubing for the lighter front legs and hollow sections for the back legs to efficiently transfer weight.
Similarly, the all-wood Chaise Tout Bois, created during World War II from veneer and solid wood due to metal shortages, resembles the Standard chair.
