Description
Verner Panton was a key figure in 1960s and ’70s design, known for his experimental use of forms, colors, and the novel material of plastic. He aimed to create a comfortable, one-piece chair suitable for any setting. After several years searching for a manufacturer, Panton partnered with Vitra in 1963 to develop the Panton Chair, unveiled in 1967.
The chair's pre-series production began the same year and was met with widespread acclaim, earning numerous awards. One of the earliest models is part of the Museum of Modern Art's collection in New York. Today, the Panton Chair is considered a classic of modern furniture design, with the original version made of rigid polyurethane foam and glossy lacquer marketed as the Panton Chair Classic.
