Description

The French designer and engineer Jean Prouvé created the Antony chair for the Cité Universitaire in Antony near Paris in the early 1950s. Ateliérs Jean Prouvé commenced production of this design after winning the competition to furnish 150 rooms in what was then the largest student residence in Europe. The robust chair, with its unique silhouette soon found its way into offices, waiting areas and living rooms.

The limited edition of Antony is available until the end of December 2025 and comes with a consecutively numbered label.

Material Description:

  • Seat shell:  plywood, natural pine veneer, hard wax oil finish.
  • Base:  sheet steel and tubular steel, powder-coated (smooth) in Prouvé Rouge Corsaire, glides for hard floors.
  • Note:  pine characteristically changes colour over time when subjected to sunlight, depending on the intensity of exposure.

Jean Prouvé, who regarded himself as an engineer throughout his lifetime, was both the designer and manufacturer of his product ideas. His unique oeuvre, ranging from a letter opener to door and window fittings, from lighting and furniture to prefabricated houses and modular building systems, encompasses almost anything that is suited to industrial production and construction.
