The Vitra Design Museum team has envisioned an extensive encyclopedic book on furniture design since the 1990s. Atlas will be the most comprehensive publication on the subject, featuring over 1,000 pages and 2,800 illustrations, including object photographs, design sketches, and designer portraits.
This work combines detailed object texts with essays, glossaries of manufacturers and materials, biographies, and infographics, covering the global development of design and the evolution of significant furniture types, such as the cantilever chair and Monobloc.
